President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday, September 7, gate-crashed the homecoming party of Safina Kwekwe Tsungu, the Principal Secretary for Gender Affairs, which was held at her rural home in Kinango, Kwale County.

The Head of State said he was in the county on a development tour, when he saw a hoisted Kenyan flag in one of the homesteads, and knew — right away — that a high-ranking Kenyan Government official was in that homestead.

“I came to monitor the progress of a road construction here in Kinango. During that exercise, I saw a hoisted Kenyan flag and a crowd of people in this homestead. I said I wanted to know why there was what seemed like a formal convention here. So, I came. Where there is a hoisted flag, the Government is represented, and I am the leader of the Government. So, I had to know what was going on here,” the president told invited guests at the ceremony.

“My arrival here has allowed me to thank you, people of Kinango, for giving us a principal secretary, who works well with us. And, I would say we have a PS who respects the Kenyan people, and is very focused,” said President Kenyatta.

The president said he understood that later in that ceremony, there was going to be a harambee, in which funds raised would go toward the construction of a school in Kinango.

“I, therefore, give my personal contribution of Ksh1 million, which will be used in that project,” said the Head of State.

President Kenyatta promised to direct the Ministry of Education, via the schools’ infrastructure fund, to channel Ksh10 million toward the construction of the Kinango school.
