At least five robbery incidents have been reported in Nairobi in the last 24 hours.

Two suspects have been shot dead, a firearm recovered and a licensed firearm holder robbed of his firearm over the same period.

On Friday morning, Mr David Keino, a licensed firearm holder was attacked and robbed of his Ceska pistol and other personal effects valued at around Ksh350, 000 in Makadara.

Keino said he left Makadara Hamsa for his residence in Utawala but while driving towards Jogoo Road, he stopped to check one of his vehicle tyres.

He was confronted by four young men armed with crude weapons who robbed him of the firearm loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, firearm license, ATM cards, a tablet, a mobile phone and cash Ksh12, 000.

Police visited the scene but by Friday 10am, no recovery nor arrest had been made.

In another incident on Thursday at around 9pm, six armed men raided the offices of Thirdway Alliance Party headquarters in Lavington, where they assaulted and robbed staff of their belongings.

The party’s Secretary General Fred Okango said the thugs broke into the premises, plot number 57, along Chalbi Drive by jumping over the fence that is under construction.

They then tied the guard, James Mutisya, before proceeding to the office where they robbed Mr Okango of an HP laptop valued at Ksh87, 000, a Samsung mobile phone valued at Ksh98, 000, cash Ksh6, 000 and assorted ATM cards.

They also robbed the caretaker, Mr Charles Thiende of his mobile phone. Police officers from Muthangari Police Station visited the scene and are investigating the incident.

On Thursday morning, police shot dead two suspects and recovered a Browning pistol whose serial number had been obliterated.

Following a surge in robberies within Huruma’s Mbuthia and Metameta areas, a joint team of officers drawn from Pangani, Kayole, Soweto and Huruma launched an operation to flush out the robbers.

The team came across a gang of five suspects at around 2am and a shoot-out ensued. Two of them were shot dead while the others escaped with gunshot wounds.
