Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri says President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga owe Kenyans an apology over the recent foul remarks made by politicians allied to the trio respectively.
Speaking in Kiawara Village in Kieni Constituency, Nyeri County during the burial of his sister-in-law Anne Wairimu, the former minister said the risen political temperatures experienced in Kenya today, emanate from the failure of the three to control their political foot soldiers.
“Former president Mwai’s Kibaki’s legacy is development. All we are now asking President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto, to do, is to unite Kenya. That will be their legacy. The pledge the duo gave Kenyans was that they would bring to an end bloodshed and post-election war. Today, both of them, have deserted that position. Why?” posed Kiunjuri on Friday, September 11.
“If you look at Uhuru Kenyatta’s side, there are people waking up every day to only abuse the DP as if they are on a payroll to spew insults. If you look at DP Ruto’s corner, there are people, whom you’d think are on a payroll, with their job description being: ‘abuse Uhuru Kenyatta’. They have now gone to the extent of abusing Mama Ngina Kenyatta.
“Today, I have read on ‘Nation’ newspaper that Raila Odinga is lamenting, calling for people to respect leaders. The question to Raila is: ‘Have you ever condemned Babu Owino? Have you ever condemned Gladys Wanga?’ You are shedding crocodile tears.
“The [insults] journey began with you, Raila Odinga. Your lack of appropriate action, has now transmitted the same bug to Uhuru Kenyatta’s people and William Ruto’s allies. The buck stops with the three of you (Uhuru Kenyatta, William Ruto and Raila Odinga). If you want this nonsense to stop, Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga and William Ruto, you must apologise to the nation. You started it all. You are fanning the flames of verbal abuse. Respect Kenyans, and we shall respect you.”
