Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has called out Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah for overstepping protocol in his report on President William Ruto’s departure to Arusha, Tanzania, for the East African Community (EAC) Heads of State Summit.

In a statement via his X account on Saturday, November 30, 2024, Amisi expressed his displeasure accusing Ichung’wah of disrespecting the established hierarchy in government. According to Amisi, the responsibility of seeing off the President, when present, falls on the Deputy President.

Amisi criticized Ichung’wah, suggesting he had overstepped his role. He urged the lawmaker to respect the chain of command, particularly the position of DP Kithure Kindiki.

“Wacheni hii madharau ndogo ndogo to the new kid on the block. You are not above the Deputy President, @KIMANIICHUNGWAH. Respect hierarchical order in your reporting. When the DP is around, he, by virtue of office, assumes the responsibility of seeing off the President. You were a spectator!” Amisi wrote.

The lawmaker’s sentiments come after Ichung’wah posted on X on Friday, claiming he had seen off President Ruto before his trip.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki was present.

“Earlier today, saw off H.E President @WilliamsRuto, as he departed to Arusha, Tanzania for the 24th Ordinary Summit of the East African Community Heads of State. Also present was Deputy President, Professor @KindikiKithure,” Ichung’wah posted on his X on Friday, November 29, 2024.

President Ruto travelled to Arusha on Friday for the 24th Ordinary Summit of the EAC Heads of State, which took place on Saturday, November 30, 2024.

Ruto was joined by Tanzania’s president, Samia Suluhu; Salva Kiir of South Sudan, Yoweri Museveni of Uganda; Rwanda’s Paul Kagame; Evariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi; the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Felix Tshisekedi and Somalia’s Hassan Sheikh.

During the Summit President Ruto was chosen as the new Chairman of the East African Community (EAC) succeeding South Sudan’s Salva Kiir.
