Renowned investigative journalist John Allan Namu is mourning the loss of his mother Getrude Muthoni Namu who passed away early on Friday morning, December 6.
The deceased passed away at the age of 70.
In an emotional statement shared on social media, the award-winning journalist expressed his grief with heartfelt words.
“Rest well mom. You are now in His presence,” Namu wrote in an Instagram post, capturing the raw and personal nature of his loss.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Namu paid another tender tribute in Kikuyu, saying, “Koma wega mami wakwa 💔,” which translates to “Sleep well, my mom” in English.
An outpouring of sympathy
The announcement of Muthoni Namu’s passing has prompted an outpouring of condolences from colleagues, friends, and admirers across Kenya.

Fellow journalist Oliver Mathenge echoed similar sentiments, saying, “My condolences to you and your family. May she rest well.”
BBC reporter Ferdinand Omondi added his voice, simply stating, “My deepest condolences bro.”
Musician Fena Gitu and activist Hanifa also extended their sympathies, with Fena commenting, “Pole sana 🫂🙏,” and Hanifa sharing, “Pole sana kaka 💔💔💔❤️❤️❤️.”
