Vocal Kandara MP Alice Wahome has strongly opposed the recent changes in Jubilee Party’s leadership in Parliament.

The lawmaker, who is closely allied to Deputy President (DP) William Ruto, said that the changes effected by the party boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta, undermine the independence of MPs.

She claimed that the changes effected on the party leadership on Monday, June 22, and in the past three months, are unconstitutional, arguing that the removal of members from team roles should be done through voting.

The second-term MP said that she skipped Monday’s Parliamentary Group meeting because she was recently removed from the National Assembly’s Justice and Legal Affairs Committee over allegations of disloyalty to the party leader.

Speaking after commissioning Kandara Police Station that has been funded by the National Government Development Fund (NGCDF), Wahome revealed that allies of DP Ruto established a parallel office, Jubilee Asili.

Wahome said Ruto allies have been left disappointed by their party leader’s decision to enter into post-election coalitions with opposition parties without consulting them.

Jubilee has signed post-election pacts with Kenya African National Union, Wiper Democratic Movement and Chama Cha Mashinani.
