A security guard has been killed and another one injured, following an attack by unknown thugs at Kianjokoma market in Embu North last night.

The thugs are said to have broken into several shops before making away with goods of unknown value.

When the thugs broke into the shop ,they first hacked to death one of the guards before seriously beating up his colleague using blunt objects leaving him for dead.

Joseph Kanyi, a resident at Kianjokoma who resides near the market said the thugs are using the curfew hours when locals are locked in their houses to break into the shops.

He called on police to beef up security at night and increase patrols in order to contain those terrorising them.

“We are going to take the law into our hands if police officers will not protect our property and life, when we obey curfew hours other people are taking advantage to steal from us,” Kanyi said.

Moses Kariuki who operates a shop and was a victim of the night theft, said that the thugs have been terrorising locals for long and that no action has been taken.

He noted that residents are living in fear because there has been increased cases of insecurity in the area.

“This thieves are not only breaking in to shops but they are also going around homes stealing the property of people,” Kariuki observed.

Henry Rutere urged police to move with speed and arrest those who were behind the killings and theft.

He said there is a group of thugs who are robbing locals and that they should face the wrath of the law.

Rutere observed that cases of insecurity reduced in recent days after locals cornered four robbers who were trying to steal from one of the directors of KTDA and killed them.

Not long, another night guard was killed in Embu town around 200 meters from Embu police station.

Last week several shops were were also broken into by thieves who made away with valuable goods.

The residents of Embu accused police of laxity and unfair excuses especially the claim that their vehicle sometimes lacks fuel and that is why they are unable to respond to a call at night.

The injured guard was rushed to Embu level 5 hospital where is now receiving treatment while the body of the deceased was taken to Embu hospital mortuary.
