Speaking in a post shared on his X account on Sunday, August 31, 2025, Alai highlighted the progress of the process, stating that, “Today, Sunday 31 August 2025, close to 70 signatures have been collected in a members’ initiated process to impeach Nairobi Governor, Johnson Arthur Sakaja.”

They chanted, “We have decided, no turning back, no turning back,” signalling the assembly’s commitment to proceed with the impeachment.

County assembly composition

Alai also noted the current makeup of the Nairobi County Assembly, explaining that it now has 123 members following the death of Hon. Joel Munuve, MCA for Kariobangi North Ward.

“The county assembly has 123 members after the death of Hon Joel Munuve, MCA Kariobangi North Ward,” he said, stressing the significance of the numbers in the impeachment process.

The video did not include reasons for the move against Governor Sakaja, and Alai did not elaborate on the specific grounds of impeachment.

However, the gathering clearly displayed a sense of unity among the MCAs involved, reflecting the seriousness of the motion they intend to bring before the assembly.

As the impeachment process progresses, attention now turns to the formal submission of the signatures and how Governor Sakaja will respond to the move by nearly two-thirds of Nairobi’s elected representatives.
