At least 80 Nairobi MCAs have backed the Mike Sonko-Mohamed Badi truce declared on Wednesday after President Uhuru Kenyatta intervened.

The MCAs now say they have also buried the hatchet and will focus on pushing Nairobi County’s development plan.

The ward reps had been divided into pro-Sonko and pro-Badi camps that led to chaotic scenes at City Hall which culminated in the resignation of Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi on Tuesday.

Speaking to Milele FM, Kariobangi South MCA Robert Mbatia said that the infighting at City Hall has derailed service delivery in Nairobi.

“We expect to have a new Speaker tomorrow. Nairobi has lost track because of disruptive politics but that will now be in the past once the new Speaker,” said Mbatia.

On Thursday, Jubilee Party summoned all its ward representatives in the Nairobi County Assembly for an urgent meeting scheduled in the afternoon.

The consultative meeting comes ahead of the election of a new Speaker to replace Elachi, a vote set for Friday afternoon, August 14.

“In light of the current developments at the Nairobi County Assembly, you are required to attend a consultative meeting of all Jubilee elected and nominated at Jubilee Headquarters in Pangani at 12 noon on Thursday, August 13, 2020, without fail,” said Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju in his letter.

In Nairobi County, Jubilee has 65 MCAs, both elected and nominated.

The county has a total of 85 electoral wards.

Tuju’s meeting with the City MPs will coincide with disciplinary hearing for eight ward reps who were summoned earlier this week.

Jubilee Party summoned them to appear before the disciplinary team over misconduct.

Among those in the soup for misconduct are acting Speaker and Ruai MCA John Kamangu, Millicent Mugadi (Ziwani), Jeremiah Karani (Kayole Central), Charles Thuo (Dandora Area 3, June Ndegwa, Margaret Mbote, and Susan Makungu.
