8 Hungarians among 11 people who died in Kwale plane crash

Eight Hungarian nationals are among the eleven people who lost their lives after a Mombasa Air Safari aircraft crashed in Kwale County.

In a statement on Tuesday, October 28, 2025,  Mombasa Air Safari confirmed that the ill-fated aircraft, registration number 5Y-CCA, was operating a scheduled flight from Diani Airport to Kichwa Tembo Airstrip in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve when it went down.

“Mombasa Air Safari Limited deeply regrets to confirm that one of our aircraft, registration number 5Y-CCA, was involved in an accident today, October 28,  2025, while operating a scheduled flight from Diani Airport to Kichwa Tembo, Maasai Mara,” the airline said.

According to preliminary reports, the plane was carrying 10 passengers,  8 Hungarians, 2 Germans, and 1 Kenyan crew member (the Captain), all of whom perished in the crash.

“We are profoundly saddened to report that, according to preliminary information, there were 10 passengers, 8 Hungarians and 2 Germans, and 1 Kenyan crew member (the Captain) on board. Sadly, there are no survivors,” the statement read.

The airline expressed its deep sorrow and extended condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives.

“Our hearts and prayers are with all those affected by this tragic event,” Mombasa Air Safari said.

Following the tragedy, the company said it has activated its emergency response team and is fully cooperating with aviation authorities, who have already launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.

A Family Assistance Team has also been established to provide psychological counselling, logistical coordination, and other necessary support to the victims’ families.

“Our primary focus right now is on providing all possible support to the families affected. A dedicated Family Assistance Team has been established to offer counselling, logistical coordination and any required assistance,” the airline added.

“We will provide further updates as more information becomes available and in coordination with the investigating authorities.”
