A total of 72 individuals tested positive for Covid-19 in Kenya, the Ministry of Health has confirmed.
Nairobi County accounted for 52 of the new cases, said Health Chief Administrative Secretary, Dr. Mercy Mwangangi on Monday.
Dr. Mwangangi said that the number of counties with Covid-19 cases also increased to 29 after a case was reported in Turkana County.
The total Covid-19 infections have now risen to 1,286 from the 61,931 samples tested since March by the government. In the last 24 hours, the government tested 2,711 samples out of which the 72 cases were confirmed.
On a positive note, nine patients were discharged pushing the number of recoveries to 402 but one patient on Monday succumbed to the virus, putting fatalities to 52.
Health CAS Mwangangi and acting Director-General for Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth, urged Kenyans who are sick to continue seeking health services from hospitals.
“We have noted that health-seeking behaviours have been affected by COVID-19 but that is only because of fear…Covid-19 is here to stay so we need to develop tools and systems to help us adapt,” said Dr. Amoth.
Further, Health CAS said diet will play a key role in helping people develop immunity to the virus.
“Let’s pay attention to what we eat. We have guidelines at http://health.go.ke please utilize them to boost your immunity together with physical exercise,” said Dr. Mwangangi.
