More than 68 Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) staff might face prosecution over abetting bribery and tax evasion if the chief prosecutor gives the nod after perusing reports from investigators.

State prosecutor Alexander Muteti told Justice Luka Kimaru that they have received 16 files from sleuths showing investigations on 68 KRA staff were complete.

The prosecution successfully requested the court for 30 days to study the reports before deciding on the way forward.

However, the High Court, was told that there are pending investigations for 21 more KRA staff.

In May this year, 38 KRA employees were arrested on suspicion of abetting tax evasion and bribery.

They were released on bond but ordered to report regularly to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

But on Thursday, Justice Kimaru suspended the directive requiring them to appear before the DCI.

Instead, the court ordered that any further appearance by the KRA staff before the DCI must be through summons by the investigation’s office.

The case will be mentioned on September 19, 2019, when the prosecution is expected to give a report on who will be prosecuted.
