In the last 24 hours, five more people have tested positive for the coronavirus disease, bringing the total number of those infected in Kenya to 184.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said 308 samples were tested out of which three Kenyans and two foreigners were confirmed to have Covid-19.

CS Kagwe said that one of the positive cases came from mandatory quarantine facilities.

Four people were also discharged, having moved from positive to negative bringing the total of those who have recovered to 12.

However, one person died in Mombasa from the disease.

Mr. Kagwe said that the Mombasa case died shortly after going to the hospital and was only confirmed to have had the disease after a postmortem.

Out of the 184 cases, three are below 15 years, 49 are between 15-29 years, 119 are between 30-59 years while 13 are above sixty years.

In terms of sex, 107 are male while 77 are female.

During the media briefing on Thursday, April 9, Mr. Kagwe issued a stern warning to boda boda operators for allegedly being used to flout curfew and travel restrictions imposed in Nairobi, Kwale, Kilifi and Mombasa counties.

The CS said that the government may consider harsh measures against the boda boda sector if they do not heed prescribed regulations.

”Compel your colleagues to observe set measures to protect your businesses. Your chairmen, have been told again and again, unfortunately when you close a sector, you don’t say it will only affect the bad people,” said Mr. Kagwe.

Further, the CS urged hairdressers and barbers to sanitise their workplaces and observe social distancing rules.
