DCI detectives have arrested three people in connection with the December 7, 2020 murder of a 22-year-old Egerton University student.

Eunice Muthoni Njeri was found killed, and her body dumped in River Subuku, Njoro County.

It has now emerged that the Fourth Year student was allegedly strangled by her friend, who suspected Njeri was having a sexual relationship with her (friend’s) husband.

The killing was also orchestrated and witnessed by another of Njeri’s friend, who is also in custody, police say.

The DCI say investigations have revealed that one Diana Njeri Muthiomi suspected that Njeri was secretly seeing her spouse Eric Maingi Mutuma.

Diana’s suspicions were echoed by one Tamar Wambora Njeru, who is Njeri and Diana’s mutual friend. All the three were students of Egerton University, police said.

“A day before Njeri was killed, Diana and Tamar had left for a funeral in Nakuru, leaving behind the deceased with Diana’s husband.

“It is after they returned late at night that they suspected a brewing love affair between the two. A confrontation and bitter exchange of words then ensued. The following day, the deceased was called by Diana and Tamar, to ostensibly settle the matter, never to be seen alive again,” said the DCI in their investigation findings report.

Authorities say forensic analysis placed Diana at the scene, confirming that in the wee hours of December 7, 2020, Diana was at the exact spot where the deceased’s body was found.

As a result, Diana, her friend Tamar and husband Eric have been arrested in connection with Njeri’s killing.

“Diana and Eric will also face electronic fraud charges after 722 SIM cards and seven mobile phones were found in their house,” said the DCI.

“The three will be arraigned at the Nakuru Law Courts on Monday, February 22 to answer to their crimes,” said the DCI, adding: “Homicide detectives have cast their net wider in search of accomplices who helped in the dumping of the deceased’s body.”

An autopsy conducted by Dr. Wangari Wambugu at the Egerton University Funeral Home on December 10, 2020 indicated that Njeri was fatally strangled.
