A prisoner who was held at Kisii Central Police Station has died while undergoing treatment at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH).
The convict identified as Josephat Nyangweso complained of sickness leading to his admission to KTRH for treatment.
According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, the 45-year-old is said to have first complained of sickness on June 27 where he got treated and discharged in fair condition.
Nyangweso had been arrested for dealing in alcoholic drinks without a license. He was arraigned on June 25 where he was fined Ksh10,000 or three months imprisonment.
“He was charged for dealing in alcoholic drinks without license c/sec.8(1)(b) as read with section 71 of the Kisii county alcoholic drinks control act of 2015.
“He was fined Ksh10,000/= in default three months imprisonment convicted by cm’s court Kisii on 25/06/2021,” the police report leads.
The suspect was apparently unable to raise the fine and was referred to Kisii GK Prison where he was to serve his three months’ imprisonment.
He was, however, held at Kisii Central Police Station temporarily waiting for the availability of space at the prison.
His body has been moved to the KTRH morgue pending a postmortem exercise.
