Four State House staff members have tested positive for Covid-19, the Spokesperson in the office of the President and head of PSCU Kanze Dena-Mararo has revealed.

Ms. Dena-Mararo said that the workers were tested during last week’s mass Covid-19 testing held on Thursday, June 11.

“As part of proactive measures being implemented to contain the spread of Covid-19, State House staff are regularly tested for the disease,” said the PSCU head.

She said the tests are conducted on all staff, including President Uhuru Kenyatta and members of his family.

“The infected officers were admitted at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital in Kiambu County for treatment,” said Ms Dena-Mararo.

But the President and the First Family are safe and free from Covid-19.

State House revealed that it has strengthened Covid-19 containment measures with extra access protocols for State House staff who reside outside the compound and visitors.

Covid-19 update

On Monday, the Ministry of Health confirmed that 133 more people had tested positive in the country in the last 24 hours.

The death toll also rose to 104 after a Covid-19 patient succumbed to the virus. But the number of recoveries increased to 1,286 after 33 patients were discharged from various hospitals.

Mombasa led in new cases reported on Monday with 61 followed by Nairobi with 53.

The two cities have been the worst-hit by the pandemic but hotspots have also cropped up in border counties with truck drivers being the most affected in Kajiado and Busia.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe revealed that the cumulative number of tests conducted so far is 118,701, with total caseload at 3,727.

Kenya has the highest caseloads in the Eastern Africa region followed by Ethiopia which has 3,521 infections. However, Tanzania stopped recording its Covid-19 data right about the time they hit alarming infections, nearly surpassing Kenya.

Recently, Tanzania President John Magufuli declared the country coronavirus-free.
