3rd Kenyan rescued from Russian military conscription on his way home – PS Sing’Oei
By David Nthua, October 1, 2025Kenya, through its Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary, Korir Sing’oei, has confirmed that another Kenyan, Kevin Kariuki Nduma, who was illegally recruited into the Russian military, has been rescued and is set to touch down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) anytime.
Through a post on his verified and official X handle on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Korir thanked the Kenyan Mission in Moscow and teams at headquarters for their tireless efforts.

“A third Kenyan, Kevin Kariuki Nduma, irregularly conscripted to serve in the Russian military, is on his way back home.
“I commend our Mission in Moscow for the effort to rescue and repatriate Kenyans caught in this unfortunate and dangerous situation,” Korir wrote.
The Principal Secretary also urged Kenyans to exercise caution when considering foreign employment opportunities.
“We implore Kenyans to exercise all diligence in verifying the authenticity of any foreign employment contracts and to seek advice from the Ministry, particularly our Diaspora State Department, should they have any doubt,” he added.

Earlier, Korir further highlighted that this latest rescue brings to three the number of Kenyans repatriated from illegal military recruitment in Russia.
“Pleased to inform of the rescue and repatriation of three Kenyans: Shaquille Wambo, Pius Mwika, and Derick Njaga by our Mission in Moscow. The three are safe and on their way home to their families,” Korir posted on September 27, 2025.
PS Korir calls for alertness
The PS acknowledged the role of Ambassador Peter Mathuki and the mission’s team in Moscow, who have been working tirelessly to ensure the safety of Kenyans caught in these precarious situations.
He also noted that efforts are ongoing to assist other Kenyans captured as prisoners of war.
Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reiterated its commitment to protecting citizens abroad and warned that illegal conscription can put young Kenyans’ lives at serious risk.
The government has urged potential overseas workers to confirm employment offers through official channels before accepting contracts.
