3-week old infant among 127 new COVID-19 patients in Kenya

Kenya recorded 127 new COVID-19 cases, bringing to 2, 989 the total number of infections in the country, Health CAS Dr. Rashid Aman says.

The 127 infections were discovered in 2, 247 samples tested between Monday and Tuesday.

One hundred and twenty four (124) of the 127 new cases were discovered among Kenyan nationals, whereas three were foreigners.

Eighty four (84) of the new patients are male, whereas 33 are female, said CAS Dr. Rashid Aman.

The youngest case among the new patients is aged 3 weeks, whereas the oldest is aged 72 years.

In terms of counties that produced the new cases, Nairobi had 62, Mombasa (34), Busia (14), Machakos (4), Bungoma (3), Kwale (1), and Uasin-Gishu (1).

In Nairobi, Kibra registered a bulk of the new cases, whereas in Mombasa, Mvita posted a high number.

Twenty four (24) more patients recovered from COVID-19, bringing to 873 the total number of recoveries in Kenya.

Three more people died of the disease, pushing the nationwide toll to 88.

Dr. Aman, who addressed journalists at Afya House in Nairobi, predicted that Kenya will record a higher number of COVID-19 cases in the near future, urging the citizens to observe the safety guidelines put in place by the Ministry of Health.

“If you look at the first eight days of June, we have recorded 900 positive cases of COVID-19 from 19, 461 samples tested. The first eight days of May, we recorded 225 positive cases from a sample size of 8, 872,” he said.

Kenya has thus far tested over 100, 000 samples for COVID-19.
