Three Kenyans who were arrested on Nairobi-Nakuru highway trafficking over 700kg of bhang valued at Sh22.8 million have been charged in a Nairobi court.

The three, Bonventure Ambani Litiema, Aritoh Ghonzagha Mike and Fredrick Oduor Ouma, were charged with transporting banned narcotics contrary to the law.

Police said that the trio was transporting the bhang, disguised as maize, on a white Mitsubishi FH truck, a vehicle one of the suspects wants the court to have released.

The suspect told the court that he can always bring the vehicle to court if needed to be shown as an exhibit during the trial.

The court released the suspects on a bond of Sh10 million with an alternative of Sh4 million cash bail.

On the request to release the truck, Magistrate David Njuki told the suspect to file a formal application.

The matter will be heard on November 5.
