Detectives based at Mwatate, Taita Taveta County shot dead a 27-year-old man suspected to be involved in the murder of two police officers.
In a police report seen by K24 Digital on Saturday, June 5, Ismael Mwandembo is alleged to have been in the company of his mother when officers who were probing the murder case pounced on him.
“Upon seeing the officers, the suspect who was seated in the company of his mother and one Mwanaidi Kassim, stood, turned violent and drew a knife.
“Police Constable John Terry Mudibo ordered the suspect to drop his knife but he defied. One officer fired a round from his refile to warn the suspect of the intention to use their firearms,” the police report read.
It’s then that the 27-year-old man used his mother as a body shield while seeking refuge in a nearby house.
“After about five minutes, the suspect emerged from the house while holding on to the mother and threatened to kill her if the officers insisted on arresting him. He was armed with a panga and knife,” police revealed.
Suddenly, the suspect let go off the mother and rushed at one officer cutting him on the forehead using the panga before he reached for the officer’s side firearm.
“Consequently the officers discharged rounds killing the suspect on the spot,” the police report read.
Confirming the incident, OCPD Mwatete said a panga and knife which were recovered from the suspect are in police possession.
