Sixteen police officers attached to Mtwapa police have gone into self-quarantine after falling under the long chain of people who came into contact with Kilifi Deputy Governor Gideon Saburi.

Mtwapa OCS Bernard Otomei, who developed breathing difficulties on Monday, was also put in quarantine alongside the Base Commander Matthew Koech.

The two police chiefs came in contact with Mr. Saburi at Tuskys Mall in Mtwapa township on March 20, for two hours between 8.00 pm and 10.00 pm.

More than 14 other junior officers who came into contact with the two police bosses have also gone into self-quarantine.

On Sunday, the county government sent all its staff home and discharged patients from hospitals to curb the possible spread of coronavirus.

The county said that all its offices have been shut down and local hospitals will not admit new patients in the facilities.

But the hospitals will continue treating those in critical condition.
