Kenya recorded 124 new cases of coronavirus disease, bringing the total tally of infections in the country as of Thursday, June 4 to 2, 340, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said.

The 124 cases were discovered in 2, 640 samples tested between Wednesday and Thursday.

One hundred and nineteen (119) of the 124 cases were registered among Kenyan nationals, whereas two were from Somalis, another two from Tanzanians and one from an Eritrean citizen.

Mombasa posted 40 of the 124 new cases, whereas Nairobi recorded 38 infections; Busia (26), Garissa (2), Murang’a (1), Elgeyo-Marakwet (1).

So far, 36 out of 47 counties in Kenya have recorded at least a case of COVID-19.

In Mombasa, the 40 cases were registered in Mvita (14), Kisauni (14) and Changamwe (11).

A bulk of the cases in Nairobi came from Kibra and Kamukunji.

One hundred (100) of the 124 new infections were registered among male patients, whereas 24 were female.

Kenya also announced the discharging from quarantine facilities 39 COVID-19 patients, bringing to 592 the total number of recovered patients.

Four coronavirus disease patients died in the last 24 hours, bringing Kenya’s total COVID-19 related deaths to 78, said Kagwe while addressing journalists at Afya House in Nairobi.

Kenya has thus far tested 87, 698 samples for coronavirus.
