A devastating accident in Kisii claimed the lives of at least three people, including a police officer, early Saturday morning June 15, 2024.
The tragedy unfolded around 4 am along the Kisii-Migori highway, just outside the Choma Choma Lounge club.
According to police reports, a lorry careening down the road lost control and slammed into several parked vehicles and pedestrians leaving the club.
The force of the collision was catastrophic, instantly killing three individuals, including the police officer.
The lorry also rammed into a building causing destruction.
Among the deceased was Constable Catherine Omusula, who was attached to Nyanchwa police station.
The lorry driver and an unidentified pedestrian were also killed on the spot.
“The driver had been heading towards Migori when the accident occurred,” police said.
The authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
Police spokesperson Resila Onyango described the incident as tragic and confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the loss of control by the lorry driver.
Seven other individuals, including two police officers, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital. They remain admitted in critical condition.
The incident led to a significant traffic jam on the busy highway, which took hours to clear as emergency services and police worked at the scene.
The tragic accident has sent shockwaves through the community in Kisii, highlighting the dangers present on the roads and the urgent need for improved road safety measures.
