‘For the first time Kenyans have mobilized to teach us lesson the hard way’ – MP Salasya

Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has come out to commend Kenyans for fighting the proposed Finance Bill 2024 in unison.

Salasya further stated that it’s the first time Kenyans have come out in large numbers to call out their specific legislators to reject the proposed bill which will be presented for the parliament to be discussed and voted on next week.

“Kenyans for the first time they have mobilized to teach us a lesson in a hard way,” he said.

The youthful MP who had on Thursday, June 13, 2024, lamented after an unknown person had shared his private number online revealed that he had received a total of Ksh40,000 after Kenyans sent him Ksh1 to confirm if the number belonged to him.

However, the comic legislator revealed that apart from money, some messages he received were vulgar while others threatened to harm him if he would vote in favour of the proposed Bill.

“Wakenya wametuma shilingi moja moja hadi nimefikisha 40000 lakini message za matuzi mpunguze ati niki vote yes mutaninyoa rasta yangu hehe (Kenyans have sent me Ksh1 so far I have received Ksh 40,000 in total, however, some of you have sent me vulgar messages while other threatened to cause me bodily harm if I vote in favour of the Bill)” he said.

MPs vs Kenyans

On Thursday, June 13, 2024, MP Salasya took to his official Instagram account to lament how Kenyans have bombarded him with calls and text messages after his number was shared on the vibrant social media platform X.

The first-time legislator said that he has been receiving messages and calls from Kenyans urging him to vote against the Finance Bill 2024 adding that he was unable to sleep because his phone had been vibrating.

“I can’t sleep the phone is vibrating throughout ati I reject the finance bill, Who has shared my number on X everybody across the nation is calling my number, texting me, and WhatsApping me,” he lamented.

Apart from Salasya, Mugirango South MP Silvanus Osoro during an interview with a local TV station also disclosed that he has received close to 3,000 messages from Kenyans to reject the proposed Bill adding that half of the messages he received were vulgar.

“For the record, I have received close to 3,000 messages with 50% of them being very vulgar,” he said.

The Majority Whip further stated that someone must have shared private contacts of the legislators with the public since they have been receiving calls and text messages.

“It is true someone must have shared our contacts right from the President down to Members of Parliament. We have been receiving messages,” Osoro disclosed.
