Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) CEO Ezekiel Mutua, has vehemently denounced a recent incident of privacy invasion and threats directed towards him by an individual claiming to represent Generation Z.

In a bold statement shared to his X account on July 3, 2024, Mutua expressed deep concern about being threatened for speaking his mind.

Mutua says that a goon, masquerading as a member of Gen Z, engaged in intrusive behaviour by s sharing his personal contact online and issuing threats to him after he made a post on July 2, 2024.

“One of the goons masquerading as a Gen Z champion threatened me yesterday because of my previous post arguing that we should not take the freedom we enjoy in Kenya for granted. That was my opinion and I am entitled to it,” Mutua noted.

The MCSK boss highlighted the dangerous implications of threats being issued by some goons, adding that such actions were backward and outdated.

“But the said person went ahead to share my number publicly with an inciting message “tumsalimie” I can confirm that it’s my number. I have had it for over 20 years. Now use it as you may wish. Such threats of “kusalimia watu” are archaic and primitive,” Mutua remarked.

In addition, Mutua stated that those individuals who carried out such acts were doing so with total disregard for ethical conduct and a violation of basic human rights.

Mutua stressed the importance of upholding integrity and respect in all forms of communication, citing that some people including himself were too important to be issued with threats.

“How can you champion for a better Kenya when you are threatening people and invading their privacy? Some of us hold a too high moral pedestal to be threatened by scammers,” Mutua added.

Mutua’s advice

The incident comes days after Mutua advised Generation Z to be law-abiding and avoid violence, arguing that violence robs young people of their power.

He added that young people can only be powerful by acting legally.

“You are powerful when you act in line with the law when you are beyond tribe and beyond being bought. You are powerful when you prick our conscience with your sheer courage, boldness and intelligence.

“Bullying others, causing mayhem and violence is not a strength. It robs you of your power,” Mutua said.

Furthermore, Mutua urged protesting Kenyan youths not to act against the Constitution, so as not to lose their legitimacy.
