A section of anti-Finance Bill 2024 protesters in Eldoret on Thursday, June 20, 2024, brought down the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) wheelbarrow symbol erected in the town.

The irate protestors enthusiastically demolished the ruling party’s symbols as they called on the government to do away with the Finance Bill 2024 currently being debated in parliament.

Profound chants against the bill filled the city, considered one of the president’s bedrooms, as protestors bemoaned the onerous living expense, which is expected to be exacerbated by the plan’s tax provisions.

The demos brought business to a standstill as the youths took the centre of the vicinity to air their grievances.

The wheelbarrow, a significant symbol in the ruling party was erected during the 2022 General Elections as support for the UDA regime.

Other counties across the country also united to protest against the contentious bill tabled before parliament.

In Nairobi, protesters took to the city’s Central Business District (CBD) in their march against the bill which they want dropped in totality not amended.

Residents in Kisumu also protested in various areas including Kondele and the city’s CBD.

Similarly, protests heat up in counties such as Nyeri, Nakuru, Mombasa, Kilifi, Kiambu and Isiolo counties among others in the hope of mounting pressure on lawmakers to say no to the bill.
