Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Saturday, August 31, 2024, stepped out in a unique attire during the Akamba cultural festival held in Mombasa County.

Kalonzo wore slim-fitting khaki pants, a maroon shirt popular with Kenyan politicians and had a traditional shoal draped around his shoulders.

To complete the full traditional attire, the self-declared substantive leader of the opposition had a bow and arrow.

The festival which featured the rich cultural heritage of the Akamba community infused their traditional food, songs, dances and poetry.

Similarly, it brought together the Akamba community from the various coastal counties where they have lived for decades and intermarried with the local Mijikenda tribes.

The Akamba community settled in the coastal counties during the barter trade era and has huge numbers in the Changamwe area of Mombasa County.

Leaders present during the cultural event organised at the Gymkhana grounds were;

Democratic Action Party of Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa, Jubilee party secretary general Jeremiah Kioni, senator Bernard Kiio Wambua, Ferdinand Waititu and senator Shakila Abdalla.

“Article 11 of the Consitution of Kenya recognizes culture as the foundation of the nation and as the cumulative civilization of the Kenyan p****e and nation. It was an honour to join other residents of Mombasa at the Akamba Cultural Festival organized by the Akamba community living in Mombasa at the Gymkhana Grounds,” Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Nassir said during the event.

On his part, Wamalwa noted the significance of diversity in the nation and appreciated the Mombasa County leadership for facilitating the cultural event.

“Our constitution provides that culture is the foundation of our nation, and our cultural diversity is like the beauty of the r*****w; it lies in the diversity of its colours,” Wamalwa said.

Kalonzo took the opportunity to chide the Kenya Kwanza government led by Ruto, promising to make him a one-term president.

“My eyes are wide open na tutapeleka serikali ya Zakayo nyumbani. Mambo ya ajabu yatatokea,” he said, referring to William Ruto as ‘Zakayo’, a political moniker that has been given to the H**d of State.

This came against the backdrop of an intensified unity call between Ruto and ODM, which saw him tour the four Luo-Nyanza counties in four days.
