Thursday blackout alert: 8 counties to face hours-long power outage

Kenya Power has announced a scheduled power outage set for Thursday, August 1, 2024, that will affect eight counties across Kenya.

The outage is planned for maintenance purposes, with different regions experiencing temporary power cuts throughout the day.

In a statement on its official website, Kenya Power said, “Notice is hereby given under Rule 27 of the Electric Power Rules that the electricity supply will be interrupted as follows: (Periodic interruptions are necessary to facilitate maintenance and upgrades of power lines, connect new customers, or replace power lines during construction, etc.).”

The temporary outage is expected to have a significant impact on various sectors and daily activities in these areas.

Kenya Power said counties affected by this blackout include; Kiambu, Nakuru, Nyamira, Kisii, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Siaya and Mombasa counties.

Kiambu

Area: Gitaru, Regen

Time: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Places affected:   Gitaru, Rungiri, Regen, Magana Farm, Kihumo, Part of Muthiga & adjacent customers.

Nakuru

Area: Ngata, Ogilgei, Piave

Time: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

Places affected: Part of Ngata, Technology Farm, RVST, Ngata Castle, Piave, Jesus Is Lord Radio, Ngera, Nyoro Construction, Kokoto, Kabasis, Roret, Lokorio, United Selection, Ogilgei, Kirobon Pri, Kapkatet, Ndarugu Center & adjacent customers.

Nyamira

Area: Nyankoba, Birongo

Time: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Places affected:  Nyankoba T/Fact, Birongo, Nyaibasa, Kebirichi, Amabuko Mkt, One Hen Project, Gianchere, Mogoni Sec, Geteni Polytechnic & adjacent customers.

Kisii

Area: Eberege Tea Factory

Time: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Places affected: Eberege T/Fact & Water Pump, Kimai H/Centre, Omobondo Pri, Kebabe Sec, Mogenda Mkt, Riribe Sec, Nyansaki Sec & adjacent customers.

Nyeri

Area: Karima Mission School

Time: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Places affected:  Karima Mission Sch, Giathenge, Father Nyamu Sch, Gathaithi, Karuri, Gura C/Fact, Gatugi C/Fact, Kagongo & adjacent customers.

Kirinyaga

Area: Gitwe, Kona Mbaya

Time: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Places affected:  Gitwe Pri, Gitwe Mkt, Gitwe Hostels, Gitwe Village, Kona Mbaya & adjacent customers

Siaya

Area: Nango, Wagusu, Sirongo

Time: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Places affected: Mitiro, Nyangoma, Kopolo, Wagusu, Sirongo, Liunda, Uyawi, Olago Water, Dier Aora & adjacent customers.

Mombasa

Area: Part of Shanzu

Time: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Places affected: Shaza Hotel, Kilua Hotel, Kenya Navy, ShimolLa Tewa Staff Quarters, Shanzu Teachers, Tavern Inn, Serena Apts, Sunrise Apts, Beach Rd & adjacent customers
