MPs okay Finance Bill 2024 for Second Reading

Members of Parliament have voted to have the Finance Bill 2024 proceed to the next stage of the Second Reading.

204 MPs voted to pass the Bill to the next stage while 115 voted to reject the Bill. There were no abstainees.

The Bill will now proceed to the next stage where the National Assembly will go into the Committee of the whole House where they will go through each clause and vote on any amendments proposed by the Finance and Budgetary Committee or other members.

After the voting, the members will then vote to either agree or reject the amendments that have been adopted or dropped.

Tentatively, this kind of voting will take place next week.

During the third reading, the chairperson for the Finance and Budget Committee Kimani Kuria will move that the bill be read a third time.

If approved, the Bill will be considered passed and await Presidential assent.
