The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislature said it is so heartbreaking to lose a youngster in the hands of the police officers who are supposed to protect them.
Slain protester
According to the human rights activist Boniface Mwangi, the 24-year-old slain protester identified as Rex Kanyike succumbed to gunshot wounds on Thursday, June 20, 2024 evening in Nairobi County.
Boniface Mwangi says, his body has been moved to the City mortuary adding that since it’s a homicide the police have to book the body in a public mortuary.

Police brutality
The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Davji Atellah on Thursday, June 20, 2024, disclosed that medics have treated over 300 injured anti-Finance Bill protesters in Nairobi.
Atellah in a statement stated that police officers disrupted the peaceful protest by using excessive force.
“In the wake of recent protests, the #MedicsForKenya team has reported treating over 300 injured demonstrators in Nairobi, a distressing testament to the excessive force employed by law enforcement,” Atellah said.
Atellah said that the democratic rights of the protesters were being violated by the police officers adding that the rogue officers should be held responsible.
“This brutal crackdown on peaceful protesters not only violates basic human rights but also undermines the democratic principles that protect free speech and assembly,” he said.
“It’s imperative that we hold those responsible accountable and advocate for policing reforms that ensure the safety and dignity of all citizens.”

Medics solidarity
In solidarity with the protestors, On Thursday, June 21, 2024, a team of medics in Nairobi County created a medical response command centre at Jamia Mosque to treat injured demonstrators.
